Its been a long time since I used to regularly target carp on soft plastics. Given my recent passion for chasing them on fly, I thought I may as well write what I can remember of my previous efforts using spin gear. You don’t need a fly rod to chase carp on artificials, a bream stick will be just fine and…

An ode to sight-fishing…
As I slowly made my way up the creek carefully scanning the water ahead for any signs of its inhabitants, I noticed a few ripples coming from behind a snag on my side of the creek… I stopped and watched… Every 30 seconds or so, a few ripples would appear from behind the snag. A trout was rising behind the…
Back country fishing with your smart phone
Technology is invading every part of our lives. From the moment we wake up and check a news feed and our friend’s facebook status, to navigating the streets of an unfamiliar suburb or even booking movie tickets for later that night, smart phones are quickly becoming an indispensable – I use the term loosely – part of our daily lives.…
Flyfishing for trout: success on the Monaro
PART 1 – Early November 2012 ‘Back in a few hours’, I said, stifling a boyish grin and kissing my then-fiance (now wife!) on the cheek. It was about 1.30pm, and I suspected it would be more than a few hours. However, letting this on wouldn’t have been in my best interests, particularly given the relentless pace of wedding preparations……
A few fishing photos and a few links

There are plenty of articles in the pipeline though, we just need a bit of time to finish them off. While I’ve been getting out fishing as often as possible, there…
Spring into native fishing
Spring has sprung and both Aussie anglers and Aussie fish have awoken from their winter hibernation. At this time of year it’s easy to pick up the newspaper and get excited after reading of captures of Golden Perch (yellowbelly) and Murray Cod. What the paper doesn’t report is all the people who threw lures around for a few hours and…
Trying to re-find my fishing mojo- a tale of woe and misery
Its official. I’ve lost my fishing mojo. Its gone and I need to get it back… Fishing, is ultimately a game of confidence. When things click, your calm confident and can seem to catch fish, even when everybody else is drawing a blank… But then all of a sudden you lose it, you start second guessing yourself and things just,…
Fly fishing for carp
Living in Canberra, I’ve always been happy with the sport-fishing options close at hand. I can drive for 10 minutes down to Lake Burley Griffin and target yellowbelly, cod and redfin, 25 minutes to Googong for the same, or make the 45 minute drive up to the Goodradigbee or Cotter Rivers for trout. The guys at fishinginsoutheastaustralia have enjoyed success…
